merry meet
well i am back after finishing my reading on the Colloseum and i have even typed out the draft of the first essay and have my notes written out for the second...i feel i have caught up and may well be able to get ahead in my reading by the end of next week.
such a relief.
i have been out on a few walks since my last post, enjoying the cooler weather and the change in the land around me. a couple of nights ago we even had a few flurries of snow, it lasted all of five minutes but is certainly a sure sign of winter.
there are feelings from the older members of our small hamlet that this winter will be a hard one and i do agree with them.
i keep thinking of stocking our big walk in larder with basic provisions, just in case.
today we have to drive over to a place called ilchester to meet up with a friend to collect some essential engine bits for 'pippin'...so i shall be enjoying the journey as it takes us past Maiden Castle i actually see it weekly, but the road takes us further along so i have a slightly different view. its a sight that i never become tired of and to actually walk around it is an incredible experience.
it is certainly a place to go and feel close to the ancestors.
we then follow the old roman road from dorchester to yeovil to the Fosse Way at ilchester. the old road is another amazing route as it crosses the tops of the hill so the views are amazing.
i have also finally discovered that the settlement i always enjoy looking at when we drive into blandford is Hod Hill...there are many, many ancient and sacred sites surrounding us here in dorset and i have been trying to trace them on our journeys.
however i love the fact that from our back gate we can see the ramparts of Rawlesbury camp, another iron age hill fort.
so you can see why i love this area so much...so many links to the ancestors of this land.

Greetings to Pippin from Florence - who is still going strong after a few engine repairs!
that is it! Dorset is definately on my MUST visit list when I come over.... I just travelled along with you in my mind and I want to be there in person.. and the more you talk of it.. the more I realize that this is the time of year I want to be visiting.
Is it safe to drive if it snows? that is my biggest concern, of visiting and not being able to drive anywhere.
Hello ruth! Glad Florence is better. Pippin now has his bits and bobs to fix the engine...but now he needs ball joints! never ending!
robyn...yes driving is fine...because we dont have a whole lot of snow people here tend not o kno how to drive in it...or for that matter any bad weather!
