The Flame Haired Solstice Dreamer

Cold winter brings the Everfrost and jewels every tree
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
A flame~haired dreamer wanders there and shelters from the wind
And spins her dreams around the trees to break the ties that bind
She takes her thread and spins anew and how the Greenwood smiles
As she spins a spell for freedom and for her spirit Wylde

The dreamer finds an ancient oak and shelters in his lee
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
Tis summer now and birdsong weaves its magick through her spells
And humming bees drum drowsily in the foxglove's bells
The dreamer sits beneath the oak with yarn upon her knee
And spins and knits and weaves her dreams and sets her spirit free

*connections & lost threads- a new community*

so i have been self isolating for a seven days now

i work as a community support worker with vulnerable adults-until a month ago i was permanent but as i am in the final year of my degree and wanted to gain more control over my days i became a relief worker and signed up to a second job under the same umbrella.

then covid 19 hit the UK and following government guidelines took to self isolation last monday.
which of course means no income
luckily, for now,  i have the money to keep a roof over my head and pay my bills and even luckier to have my North Star tell me daily not to worry, i know there are many out there who do not have these words to give them solace and so i know i am really, really lucky.

talking with my sister, i was made aware of areas in desperate need of staff, working from home and so as soon as she knows whats happening  i will hopefully have a trickle of income coming in-again i give thanks for what the universe may bring me.

this all means i have time, a lot of free time...

i don't spend all day on my university work, i think my brain would explode if i did.
so i find myself trying to keep to some kind of routine to my day...

i study for 3-4 hours, maybe 5 now i have an assignment to do

i potter in my garden-growing my herbs, wild flowers and vegetables

yesterday i tung oiled one of my Adirondack rockers

i actually read again-while juggling work and study i actually stopped reading. now i find i have time again and find myself adding books to my kindle, or pull books of my shelves

i also just sit-i sit in the garden and watch the birds and think...i let my mind wander where it wishes as i drink cups of tea, a blanket over my knees if the wind gets chilly

and i grieve for my sweet Arthur-i think at the moment i have had maybe three days where i have not cried. but the tears come too easily and i miss him so very much. during the week when we had the cottage to ourselves he would always sleep on the bed at night, taking up much of the room and i feel badly that on his final night in the cottage he slept alone on the sofa as my NS was here...

of course being here alone makes me think of all the others who are alone and it made me think of the blogging community that existed years ago. by years ago i am talking of  13 years ago.
my first blogger post was 27/06/2007 (which is freaking me out right about now because that was my NS 44th birthday) and blogging really was old school then and it really was a close community. we all sat typing away, opening our lives and hearts, we visited each other, supported each other and i think brought with us all a sense of belonging.
then it slowly changed, people stopped blogging, facebook happened and with the growth in mobile phones and the huge capacity they held things became instant.

now i feel change is in the air, or could be in the air and i feel the pull of grass roots, old school blogging

i think this virus will...no, i feel this virus is going to change things. i just feel that society will change and i hope for the better. we are being made to re-assess our lives, our world, the resources available. of course there are selfish, mean people who walk this world and there always will be but i hope that the lesson this virus will teach us will be one of increasing compassion, community and love. that we can start to take things a little more slowly, open our hearts and minds again and fill spaces of the internet with all the good things blogging can bring.

so are you reading this?
do you feel like un-earthing the past?
do you want to help re-build our old blogging community?

~all change...~

so...

here i am...

after a years break from blogging....

i was walking down from my kitchen and thought of my living 'my little life' and realized i needed to blog...

so here i am...sitting in my bed with a bucket of good strong yorkshire tea, still not using upper-case....i am sorry life is too short!

my life has changed a lot since my last post...

i am still with my NS i am glad to say and our relationship is stronger and more secure than ever. he has become more settled, open and after a couple of very, very rocky moments he finally...finally realized that i am not like the women who have become before-i am not out to lie, cheat and abuse him
also, please meet Arthur-i took him in as an illegal lodger who was living on the cobbles and fed by my neighbour and then myself, and i brought him with me when i moved to live out a splendid retirement in the country.

i am nearing the end of my classical studies degree-this time next year it will all be over. right now i am in revison mode with an exam in june and i am already in panic mode, feeling i know nothing...less than nothing! but already i am thinking of doing my masters with the utmost in support from NS. its a lot to think about which i will be doing over the next year while i finish my degree.

the biggest thing...well two things really...is that i moved from my home by the sea in february...at imolc actually which felt so perfect.
i only moved about 7 miles but it feels like a million miles. i am now back within the boundaries of the new forest national park, still only a few miles from my family home, living in, what i call 'splendid isolation'

i am not totally isolated, but close.

i now live in a small village with a strong history to the witches of the new forest in a little cottage that was once a one up, one down to the groom who looked after the working horses of the farm here...the stables are still next door but now home to my neighbour and her cat.
best of all i have a garden, a little patio and a shed and...off road, private parking so i will no longer have my beloved car vandalised.

the french doors lead to a small cosy living room and i wish you could see the patio now...

the kitchen is up a short flight of steep, narrow stairs and the floor has the oldest and longest oak boards i have ever seen
i was finally able to plant out my welsh rowan

oh, did i mention the woodburner?!

the first weekend i put in a feeder and now get...robins, sparrows, blue tits, great tits, gold finches, jackdaws, dunnocks, starlings,  wood pigeons, magpies, the occasional nut hatch and rooks and also wood mice, shrews and bank voles

and oh my but i am happy.

my old flat became awful...the almost constant noise from the art gallery downstairs, noise late at night on the cobbles, noise and smell from the salon, it didn't feel like home and the final straw was just before Christmas i caught my landlady coming down from my flat after using my bathroom...within two weeks both NS and i were looking for my new home.

i didn't hold out much hope of finding anywhere and so was a little half hearted then one morning NS sent me a link to a small, independent letting agent and this cottage had literally been listed only an hour earlier. so i launched an email campaign, suddenly the cottage was listed as let so then phoned only to be offered the chance to view the next day.
i was one of four people who viewed it and after a very anxious week i was offered it because 'they knew i would stay and love it'

two weeks later i was in,,,the same day going down with flu
there then followed the very rocky time with my NS

but it passed

so here i sit, in my little bedroom, drinking tea, hearing nothing but bird song and the classical music from my radio, Arthur is fast asleep on the end of the bed...and i just realized with all this catch up i went off track from what i originally wanted to write...

~the wheel turns~

so its imbolc

a turning of the great wheel of the year

everything is waking up, the days getting longer and lighter...its not overly noticeable but its happening.
in my tiny flower bed in my old flagstone courtyard there are green spikes pushing up through the earth and a few tiny snowdrops showing their faces to the cold.

here on the cobbles its a bitterly cold day with a good wind blowing up river off the Solent and working its way along the cobbles. i am squeezing in a mug of tea before i have to change out of my comfy clothes and return to work...only for two hours but i am increasingly unhappy at having to drag myself out at 4pm and getting back around 6.30.

so, a few weeks have passed from my last post and my heart is full of the joy that is my relationship with my North Star.
i find myself smiling...smiling a lot...something i rarely did in my old relationship.

the first weekend after our 'blip' and what Mark calls our 'first argument' started a little awkwardly and i was not surprised, but it only took a few hours together to return to how we were. we went vintage shopping and visited S and S in their new little home. I stayed over and cooked dinner for us before making my way home down the motorway.
from that point i started to get 2-3 phone calls a day from him and i could feel the difference in him.
the second weekend, we again stayed in the motorhome near Wickham and it was at this point he finally, honestly, admitted his feelings for me, saying he thought he would never love again...

i know...
right?

this man, this beautiful man, so damaged by an appalling upbringing and two horrible marriages was finally able to put voice to his feelings and open up. i had to ask just one question

why now? after so long?

his reply

because i trust you

~i can't do it!~

i have tried...

i really have tried

really, really, really...

but i cant do it

i cant blog...over there...

so...yoo hoo!

i am back here!

i can see you tapping your foot, arms crossed asking 'why?'

well for one thing the editing options are appalling, really dreadful don't you know...

no way off putting thumbnails on the blogroll to keep really up to date, very minimal font option, no spell check, no making nice colours or changing font size...

no fun...

so i am having to come back to the big conglomerate but ohhh it feels so much better and i can see what you...

yes you...

have been up to!

of course i am keeping my .com and have a few ideas what i can use it for...but its still in the seed stage right now...

~one month before heartbreak~

here

this is hard to write-hard because its about the real me, not the alternate me that comes across in my blog.

sometimes this me comes across in my 'warm blankets' blog-but slightly-not in a nitty gritty way.

well, because of the campaign started by broken of britain in response to the cuts brought about by our government i thought i would write this and write it as if none of you know about my problems.

~*~*~*~

i was diagnosed with M.E/CFS early in 2005 after a year of assorted illnesses-infections etc.
i was lucky enough, after being fobbed off many times with 'oh you have flu', to see a different doctor, who after listening to my horrendously long list of ailments/problems, suggested i had M.E.
he had worked with the consultant who fought to have M.E recognised as a serious, long term illness and so was very supportive.

he sent me for the blood tests that would rule out any other illness, sent me to an M.E specialist at a local hospital whose confirmation allowed me to attend a specialist self help group for six months.

from the beginning i was not able to work-imagine having flu or a very bad cold all of the time...then add a few more problems...problems that never go away, just vary from day to day, hour to hour...

~poor short term memory.
~poor concentration...the wonderful brain fog!
~headaches which range from mild to severe migraine.
~constant tiredness-not the 'its been a long day i am a bit tired' type but a constant dragging tiredness that does not go away even with a nights sleep.
~every morning waking as if you have had no sleep-even when you have.
~every action making the tiredness worse...even having conversations with people and being in a group makes me so tired.
~periods of insomnia broken with periods of almost constant sleep.
~difficulty finding the right words and problems organising thoughts... often i end up having to describe the item i am trying to find words for or will lose my words in the middle of sentences.
~poor temperature control, sweating, dizziness and difficulties with balance, my spatial awareness is affected so i had to give up driving-an activity i loved.
~sensitivity to bright lights, noise and odours...just lately the smell of cooked food has been making me very nauseous and so been living on raw vegetables and bread rolls. of course i cannot expect swampy to do the same to still keep feeling nauseous.
~painful glands in my armpits and neck.
~weakness
~anxiety

...there is more...of course

of course any other illness i have makes it worse.

~*~*~*~

for a year or so i thought i had been getting worse, much worse.

i started to have pains in my arms, legs, hands, feet, all of my joints~ that i never had before, pains that meant walking had become more exhausting and painful and at nights i couldn't sleep for the pain and would lay moving a hot water bottle from limb to limb.

when the pain finally made me cry i went to see my doctor and described it as feeling as if the pain came from deep inside my bones and joints and spread outwards and the soles of my feet as if they had been repeatedly hit with a stick.
off i went for blood test after an examination and was duly diagnosed with fibromyalgia-some doctors lump M.E and fibro as one problem, mine regards it as two problems with some overlap.

as well as the pains i have mentioned i am much more sensitive to pain-even the smallest knock or bump causes me pain-even, believe it or not, scratching myself-how silly does that sound?!

every day is a struggle, some days more than others.
i feel in a catch 22 situation sometimes for i need to keep my blood sugar levels down and cholesterol low and this is hard to achieve without exercise.
as you know my exercise is a walk with swmapy and flynt on the days i can manage it.but even then everything hurts.
the other day swampy took me to hobbycraft-every hole and bump we drove over jarred me so much and getting out of pretty pagan as my first foot touched the ground the sharp, shooting pain that exploded out of my foot hurt so much i couldn't move...

even lifting a kettle hurts...

some days even holding a book hurts...

some days even talking takes too much effort...

the days i cannot even go for a short walk are the days i do not have the energy to get dressed properly and so spend the days in my 'comfy' trousers-really pyjama trousers i use for everyday wear.
my feet hurt so badly i wear my birkenstocks 99% of the time and have done throughout the winter with warm socks.

but you know i do things, of course i do, as do the millions of other unwell folk out there~i read, crochet when i can hold a hook and yarn, blog, even go 'camping' in pretty pagan occasionally~oh i dream of the days where it seemed we were off camping every weekend during the good weather!
of course i do things, if i didn't i would go insane or at least revisit the depressions of the past~are we expected to sit like immovable lumps day after day?

~*~*~*~

so where am i going with this?

this is just me~through various forums and from friends i am aware of the problems than many, many people live with daily~not only through their illness but in living in general and its for these people i am writing this today.
my problems just give you a taster, so to speak, of what people live with.

~*~*~*~

many people face problems with money and hate crimes because of their illness/disability.
both M.E and fibro are essentially 'invisible' illnesses as are many other conditions and many of those have found, people can be cruel in what they say and yes, even think we are liars.

much blame can be directed towards the media, who in appalling reporting, classes those people who are ill/disabled with the general unemployed and  describe all of those unemployed as 'benefit scrounging scum'-how charming- not the be confused with very good blog of the same name.

so here we have a society where all unemployed are lumped under one mean banner~but yes there are scroungers out there, i remember too well a tv interview with a young, unemployed lad, who left school with no qualifications, who constantly refused work because he considered he was too good for the jobs on offer and wanted more money to work.

our society, with the help of the media and our government has created a culture where people who are disabled and have genuine health problems are ashamed and scared of being labeled as scroungers and so do not talk about their problems.

now those who suffer disabilities and long term chronic illness have to face the fact that the government, in order to save money, are cutting essential benefits left right and center and making the medicals more difficult for people, ignoring the reports of individuals own gp and specialists, changing the boundaries to make these people 'fit for work'.
how long do they think people with a long term chronic condition will be able to hold down a job if they have been passed 'fit for work' by the unqualified people they use to conduct medicals?

~*~*~*~

it makes the heart sink that this is happening
when the likes of bank managers are awarded multi-million pound bonus, that companies avoid paying tax and are not chased for it by the government~vodaphone for example was 'let off' paying £6 billion in tax while the government are cutting £7 billion in benefits to the sick, even george osbourne is indulging in tax avoidance~ 38 Degrees

our government does not think in human terms when coming up with their plans.
in fact i think they are on another planet all together when we hear this now tired saying...

'we are all in this together'

no we are not all in this together!
will those mp's~i am looking at you now messers cameron and clegg~suffer the way the poorest in society will in this land of high prices, increased fares on public transport, pay freezes and rising unemployment.

can you imagine them each week, feverishly sitting down to work out how to budget their money for the week/month?
do you think they sit there and decide which bill not to pay in favour of paying their rent/mortgage? or not to pay for essential prescriptions in favour of food or cutting down on food in order to pay their prescription charges~no they do not.

we are all in this together~what utter bunkum

how do they think these folk, any folk who are unemployed or on low wages, will be able to maintain their homes and pay the bills-do they forget that whatever your condition, working or not, everyone (unless you are homeless) has to pay bills such as water, gas, electric, telephone (if you have one), tv licence, buy food, petrol and in many cases pay mortgage, rent and council tax.

~*~*~*~

i have a hope deep inside of me that the winter solstice of 2012 will be a turning of a page, that this is the time when society will turn away from greed and unkindness and start to heal both itself and the world...its a better idea than Armageddon isn't it?

...i have to say because of all of the problems i have this has taken me four days to complete!

~turning the page~

i have been such a miserable blogger of late~such moaning!

yesterday, probably because i had such a horrid previous night~spending an hour locked in the bath room being very sick indeed, which also meant i couldn't take my tablets as my tummy wouldn't even tolerate water, i had difficult day.

but as i perked up during the afternoon i started to read a whole ream of writing i downloaded from the druid network as well as another chapter from philip carr-gomm's 'the rebirth of druidry'.

as the day darkened i lit my lamp that sits in the corner of the room that is 'my' corner

*do you have your own part of a room? a spot where you sit and where your own things gather?*

in my corner at this time i have my phone, my moleskine, a bowl which holds my glasses case and a pen sitting alongside my lamp.
on the pine chest that sits in front of the floor to ceiling window are my green man oracle, a bill bryson book and on a footstool in front of this sits my two bags of crochet~my corner of our room

i also lit the three candles on my mantle/alter and drew the curtains against the darkening chill.

i continued to read and think.

the words i read and the thoughts and pondering that the words stirred in me has helped a page turn in my life.

i have realised there is no point in fighting the things that i cannot change~like my illness's~yes i can help them by taking my medication (as much as i hate too in this i have no option) but ultimately i have to live with them, day to day.
but i realised that i cannot let the negativity that they, and other things, bring out in me, to rule my life (thank you juilana for making me think of this!)

today i feel good~i am keeping all the symptoms of my illnesses firmly in the background of my mind~i cannot wipe them out with medication nor totally ignore them~but i wont let them get the better of me, wont let it all overwhelm me and distract me from better things.

~for i have so many good things in my life~
i have a soul partner who loves, supports me and accepts me as i am
i can afford to pay the bills each month
i have a roof over my head...and a garden
i live in a very special, ancient forest where branches of my ancestor tree grow back hundreds and hundreds of years

there is much more to add to this list, but you get the idea.

i feel more peaceful today, settled and even better, by fighting the negativity and embracing the positivity, i feel i have rediscovered the track i have been following through the woods

~dont hang on any more!~

hello my lovlies!

well there are a few reasons why i have not blogged lately.

we went off to our annual VW event in the Malverns two weeks ago~we have a role in the build up of the show, and although we both struggled, and i spent more time resting in 'pretty pagan' than anything else i was so glad we went for it was the chance to meet up with old friends, some i had not seen for two years.

we had some heavy showers

some friends 'testing' the live music stage

live music outside for the first time

disaster wagons

our friend from Holland preparing for his journey back home

following two campers heading back to Germany

Luckily in trading 'character' for practicalities in buying a more modern, larger vehicle when i was resting i had lots of room~so i didnt feel cooped up.
i took my copy of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' for its umpteenth reading, my assorted crochet projects and my laptop, so i was able to sit and watch a film or documentary if i wanted to.

we were home all of last week but even the little i did exhausted me and so i had no inclination to turn on my lap-top~in fact i cannot even remember much of last week.

~*~*~*~*~

at the weekend we attended the handfasting of two friends at a beautiful grove~

swampy wore a 1940's kilt

ushered into the grove by the wonderful sound of a hammered dulcimer

sorcha, crystal, kit, yours truly and sea-witch

the happiest of couples~sue and chris

a wonderful roof sletered our feasting

we had stories

and drumming

and more music...with chris on guitar

i rested up well the day before so i was able to enjoy their special day, but by 9pm i was more than ready to get home to my bed and hot water bottle.

this week will be a quiet week for me, i am still coming to terms with the fact i have a new, painful condition to deal with and as much as i dislike it, the tablets i am taking are helping a little, although i am not sure of the long term use.

~i shall try to visit you all over the coming days~

~normality~

today was my first walk out across the forest with swampy and little flynt for days and days~it was slightly chill and blustery over the forest but wrapped in my poncho and wearing thick warm socks with my beloved Birkenstocks (i have no shame in wearing funky patterned socks with my birks!)~it felt so good to be out and i felt the cobwebs of my recent ill health blow away in tatters, drifting off across the moorland and surrounding trees like tatters of cloud, racing upwards to join the clouds passing over our heads.
i did struggle a little for my m.e has not been too good and on wednesday i had to give in to it, something i don't do very often, and go to bed~my joints and muscles were aching so badly i could have cried, and i spent my time in bed placing a hot water bottle onto my joints in turn to ease them.

there were lots and lots of varieties of mushrooms~plenty of field mushrooms, including these making up a partly formed fairy ring (sorry the dreaded fuzzy blackberry was in action again!)...

IMG00167-20100827-1057.jpg

IMG00168-20100827-1058.jpg

plus assorted tiny ones of differing colors, which has reminded me to buy an identification guide so i can pick the edible ones when out.
i adore mushrooms and could, much in the way of hobbits, eat a fine, big plateful of freshly cooked ones quite easily.
its also time for me to track down some sweet chestnut trees and bring myself home some chestnuts~although i no longer have the open fire on which to roast them~unless i take myself down the road to my mum and make the use of her open fire.
beech nuts are also lovely if you can get some.

~*~*~*~*~

the forest is feeling so autumnal now, i really think we have seen the last of true summer, but its really no surprise as we are so close to the autumn equinox~is it really so close? where did the days go since the summer solstice?
blown to tatters and taken by the wind no doubt.

i am looking forwards to the darkening days, some of you older readers will know i am a soul of the autumn and winter~times of introspection, withdrawl, dark days and wild weather.

~up & about~

i have been up and about now for a few days, but still not feeling too great.

i still have some pain but no-where near as bad as during the first week out of hospital.

*my visit to the hospital was the first i had ever had~how had i made it 43 years without a stay in hospital i ask myself?!*

i have to say despite dreading the night away from home it was not too bad at all.

i spent the first six hours after my operation in the big general hospital~the first few hours only being able to lay flat~as they had operated through my femoral artery i was not allowed to move until the wound had stopped bleeding and healed over a little.
then i was transferred by ambulance to the women's hospital just over the road, the princess anne where i remained until the following afternoon.

i was in a small ward with only two other women and it was nice a peaceful~the only trouble was the 'ob's'~ checking us every two hours on the hour including throughout the night.
i admit to not actually being able to sleep due to the pain and sickness but the one or two times i did manage to nod off i was woken for 'ob's'~my blood pressure, temperature, checking of the wound and a finger prick for my blood sugar level.

the worse thing was the heat though~i sleep throughout the year with a bedroom window open, i feel as if i am suffocating if i cannot feel nice cool air around me.
well i was in the bed furthest from the window!
by the morning both my temperature and blood pressure was sky high and i asked to be moved to a window bed with the window open. this soon lowered my temperature and blood pressure and when my consultant came over to see me he agreed that going home would be the best option as i was obviously distressed!

*~*~*~*~

i have now been up and about for the whole day for three or four days and i have been out of the house a few times. for two evening i have been on a short, slow walk over the forest with swampy to walk flynt~yesterday it was drizzling but warm and it felt so good to be out. the one other time swampy took me to a hobby shop to buy some yarn~they didn't have what i wanted so i ended up buying a book~one i have wanted for some time~the stitch n' bitch crochet:the happy hooker

already it has helped me figure out a few minor and one more major crochet niggles~so money well spent.

i am still having to take strong pain killers with the associated anti-sickness tablets and yesterday started having to take tablets for stabbing pains in my tummy~now i had these before my operation so a bit unsure why i should still be having them~i guess i shall see how it goes over the next week.

~hello!~notes from an honest blogger~

well sort of.

i have been out of hospital since late last wednesday and have been in no fit state to do anything but lay in bed, taking lots of pills, sleeping, dozing and feeling utterly miserable...oh and losing weight~i have lost about a stone and i now have legs like chicken-little!

the only food i have been able to handle have been yogurt and grapes and the only fluids ice cold water, a ginger and lemon grass cordial, lemon and ginger tea made by swampy and Indian tonic water.
last night swampy did me steamed broccoli and grilled salmon as i had become so hungry and the constant sickness subsided~i managed half of it.

this morning i sat up gingerly and announced 'i am feeling quite chipper today'~well that didn't last long i can tell you but decided that as i had to do a bit of jigging with my bank via my online banking, i thought i would pop by here and say hello and let you know i am in the land of the living although some of you may have notice i have been slightly active on twitter~its easy to lay here and post short tweets.

IMG00165-20100816-1000.jpg

here is a fuzzy picture on my bedside table~the little~weeny crochet bag and Tisserand 'de-stress' roll on oil is from a lovely soul up in Yorkshire.
oh the oil raised my spirits~it is a combination of patchouli, rose and orange oils.

~*~*~*~*~

well i cannot continue~ i am amazed i have made it this far!

all being well i shall entertain you with my adventures in hospital tomorrow.

~wahhhh~

~thank you all for your kind comments~they are all very much appreciated~

*what i didn't say in that post was that i have terrible claustrophobia!*

this meant that the night before my MRI i was awake having horrid thoughts of being in a small tube and not being able to get out.

so you can imagine the state i was in by the time i was called through.
the team were really nice however and gave me a guided tour of the MRI and showed me that in fact once in position my head would almost (notice i say 'almost') be totally clear of the other end of the machine~not too bad...but that's not the point~i would be confined in a small tube with no easy and instant means of escape.

they did tell me to keep my eyes closed as they put me through so that i didn't panic, although i admit once i opened my eyes at the other end my head wasn't as clear of the tube as i would have liked and so i ended up having to crane my neck back so i could stare at the ceiling.

i was in there for about 45 minutes and even now thinking about it my chest goes all tight with fear~from the moment i opened my eyes in there i was close to the edge of all out panic attack, even to the point of wondering if i would be able to squirm my way out of the machine at the head end~made worse when i realised i was actually strapped to the bed.
even the emergency button i had clutched in my hand was not enough to stop the rising fear inside of me, for even by pressing it, i would not instantly be free.

throughout i had my eyes fixed on the few ceiling tiles i could see and the speaker~i had ear defenders on because it was so loud but it sort of occupied my mind a little because the noises changed with each scan.

however even that was not plain sailing for one of the longer scans sounded just like a clown laughing over and over again and wouldnt you know it i suffer not only with claustrophobia but coulrophobia~the fear of clowns...oh yes!
i cannot look at them in pictures or on the screen and even thinking or writing about them makes me anxious

so there i lay with that fist of panic in my chest rising with the thought that any moment now a clown would pop its head either from the ceiling tile or appear in the room at my head.

the relief when the voice in the ear defenders told me it was all over was immense.

i do know if i ever have to have another one, involving not having my head free, then they would have to knock me out good and proper!

~*~*~*~*~

now iam in a sort of limbo~but at least things will be clearer come tuesday

~eeep~

a quick post for now.

i went to see the imaging specialist/consultant at the hospital to have another ulre-sound and discuss the option of a fibroid embolisation.

well it seems the consultant is not 100% convinced i have fibroids but instead thinks it may be adenomyosis which is a fairly rare problem where the lining of the uterus grows inside the muscle walls of the uterus~great eh?

so today...in a moment actually...i am off for an MRI scan so he can have a better image with which to make his decision.
as it is i am scheduled for surgery for fibroid embolisation next tuesday~however if this is adenomyosis then the surgery may be cancelled

~belated blessings~

~in the catch up of my week i forgot~

*lughnasa blessings to you all*

my harvest consisted of blueberries and tomatoes, leaving me hopeful of the means for a much larger harvest next year.

so the wheel has turned again and it only feels like yesterday that i was talking about the summer solstice~where is the time going this year?

we had many plans for this year but because of the many hospital and doctors appointments, and the vagaries of both of our health (it sounds awful, as if we are both ancient and ailing) we have done very little.

our days have been slow and meandering, taking our hints from my m.e and its assorted symptoms and poor swampy with his AIH and very painful back, doing what we can when we can~and ignoring it all as best we can during the 'what we can' times.

i have to say i hate all this compromise~life is all about 'well if i rest up now then i will be okay for this' for both of us.

2004 was our last snowboarding trip to Heavenly in Lake Tahoe i had spent the previous 8 years travelling to snowy destinations each year for snowboarding and on our last trip we spent 14 days solid going up the mountain by gondola and snowboarding down again.

was that really us? it doesn't seem like it now.

~from my sickbed~

another fuzzy photo!

from my sick bed

my word, that's dreadful!

this is my bedside table~a painted (and unintentionally distressed) dining chair housing my wind-up radio, olbas pastilles, olbas oil, strepsils i was using before swampy found the olbas, glasses (taken off as i was getting a headache, little box which houses bits and bobs and a half finished lemon and honey.

as you can guess i am back in bed and the reason for having my laptop here with me is that i just watched my sister graduate :) plus i found a really good youtube video of an american guy doing a granny square.

oh i know i am ill but its been bugging me so much~anyway i think i have it filed away in the old grey matter now!

the camera has been found by the way so there is no excuse for such a dreadful picture.
however,i am refusing to use it until swampy has uploaded a load of photos of steam trains onto his own computer. he always takes loads of garden photos which end up on my computer, accumulates and slows everything down.

well thats it for now!

thank you all for your kind comments regarding my swampy.
he has been poorly for well over a year now and getting worse, although he has been plodding on, trying to keep a normal life as possible while having all kinds of different blood tests, investigations and changes in medication etc.

it was only because his consultant took notice of re-occurring abnormal liver functions and a leison on his liver (that previous doctors had chosen to ignore~i know, dont ask!) that he finally had his diagnosis.
at the moment they do not know whether his severe back pain and IBS are part of the AIH or separate problems, but i imagine once he starts treatment we shall eventually find out.
we are off to see the consultant the week after next in order to find out what is going to happen next.

*~*~*~

its funny how much i took our health for granted until it all started to go downhill.
i remember never being unwell, with the exception of regular migraines, but since i have been living with m.e and then diabetes, and slowly having swampy unwell...
our world now revolves around trying to lead normal lives while juggling~remembering to take assorted medications at different times, regular doctor and hospital appointments...to say nothing of our individual problems~my dreadful memory (my short term memory is atrocious and a cause for some laughter), swampy can walk only very short distances before having to stop for a few minutes because of the pain.

i am thinking we need to carry this...

...with us when we are out!

*~*~*~

we both have what my old doctor called 'invisible illness'~this is how he explained why i would have negative reactions from people in relation to my m.e.~i have had many people just look at me and say 'oh but you look fine'~well yes i look fine', i think while biting my tongue, but come and live for a day in my body and have all my aches, pains, poor memory, extreme tiredness and then come and tell me i look fine!
we do not look obviously ill when people immediately meet either of us~although we both know the signs when each of us are really bad and i think we unconsciously make allowances for each other at these times and it doesn't always make for easy living.

while there is a lot we can no longer do and wish we could~oh we both miss snowboarding so much!~we do try to do somethings, such as our camping.
with a camper things are much easier, although there are some people who do not count a campervan as camping! our camping does not include hiking, rock climbing etc,we find somewhere, park, unpack the kettle and cups and tea bags, set up chairs and get out books and relax and enjoy mother nature and giving ourselves gentle walks while throwing a ball for flynt (he is still growing like a weed and enjoys catch with his ball each and every walk!).

then of course there is our small garden~we have had to accept we cannot manage even a half allotment plot between us and so grow what we can in our small garden~this year pea shoots, tomato's, cut and come again salad which i have planted in a large wooden vegetable crate and at the base of my blueberry bush, chillies and cucumbers which are planted among the plants as well as lots of different herbs. if this goes well we shall venture into potato's, peas and other things next year.
we hope to find a small corner to place a slimline water butt as well as incorporating a smallish compost bin.
i am also hoping that i can utilise a part of my mums huge garden~it is really a big wildlife garden with very old fruit tree's, pond and three lawns and a pet graveyard~with vegetables and flowers in pots. if there is no room for a compost bin here i am hoping to have one or two here at mums where there is much more room~it would be no problem in cycling my pre-compost state bits the five minutes down the road every few days.

*~*~*~

well now, that turned into a post and a half didn't it?
the clouds are clearing now and it is time to have a little walk around the garden~when i opened the back door for flynt the smell of tomato's drifted in~it was wonderful

wherever you are have a great day

Ahem! Cough! The Pixie puts her bossy head on...My dear sweet pea.....did you not accept the Honest Blogger Award? Do you need to re read the statement? You are not to worry about spilling out. You do not need to feel guilty or sorry that you blogged about this. You ARE among friends and we care very deeply for you. Your pain is our pain and it is shared between us, our shoulders are wide enough to carry it...honest! And if we can lighten your pain just a little then it's all worth while.
Remember, you are loved, in all your aspects.

well now...Solsticedreamer stares down at her green booted feet feeling a bit teary...

a lesson for all of us honest bloggers here...

we must not forget why we have all been awarded the Honest Blogger Award...and i obviously did forget...

maybe coming from a family who have always held in thoughts and emotions have held me back in being open about things?

maybe in this time between samhuinn and the solstice is the time to let go of all the old hindrances of my upbringing and finally move forward to being the true free spirit that is lurking inside?
to accept thats its okay to lighten my load and not hide behind a mask any longer and that at this time i can share with others what is going on with me and my body right now...

thank you pixie for putting me right {hugs}
