Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.

merry meet
we have been having the most beautiful misty mornings here in our little valley.
yesterday i walked up the lane, where the trees and hedgerow are the most amazing collection of colours, i reached the top of the hill and was beyond the mist through to blue skies and could look back down and see the cottage roofs and lower hills poke through the mist and every thing around me sparked silver in the sun. i crossed a stile into my field with the stream and could see the tiny specks of swampy and cody far down in the next field...where a small blanket of mist was laying...it was such a site.
the smell of the leaves and earth surrounding me brought me closer to the earth...it made me feel more grounded following Samhain, where i was so connected to my ancestors and feeling slightly disconnected from the world.
that feeling has left me now...in fact i am sure that my great grandad chose the time of my walk to leave me for as i walked through the small woods close to the top of the hill i caught a dark human figure in my peripheral vision ahead of me, that, once i had noticed it, moved across into the woods to my left.
so i have been left for another year, to live my life with the turning of the wheel.

I loved reading your posting this morning ,it took me back to my childhood living in a small village surrounded by fields on the edge of the lake district.Biking through the woods with all the colours of autumn around us on our way to my uncles farm and looking back over the hill to see the mist still hovering over the valley .Gorgeous!!!!!
Hi Kathyann and thank you!
i know the lakes well, my dad used to live in Brough just tot he west and i spent many, many hours driving the area in my little 2cv and looking out hidden waterfalls and standing stones.
such a beautiful place :)
I love the smell of damp earth! Your mornings sound delightful at the moment... and don't forget that your grandad will still be around to guide you whenever you need him.. well, that is what I believe.. I truly believe the veil is getting thinner more often, as if our ancestors have an urgency to help us find our roots.
youre right lee, about the scents of autumn. Ive been walking a lot this week in the woods, and the smell of damp earth, and wet leaves was almost heady. add to that the rustle of leaves underfoot, and the almost strobing light of the winter sun through the partially bare trees and its senses afire! I love it.
