we popped into weymouth last week and i took some photos around the harbour area looking across the river to melcombe regis. Weymouth town is in fact Melcombe Regis, they were once two separate places, their boundary being the harbour, with Weymouth on the south side and Melcombe Regis on the north, they became the Borough of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis in 1571.
Melcombe Regis port has a unfortunate claim to fame as the port where the bubonic plague, known as the Black Death, entered England in 1348.
what i love most about the river area are the old houses across the river in Melcombe Regis, some dating to 1600...if i had to live by the sea this is where i would go...

I can see why you like those lovely old houses, it's amazing how much interesting history there is all arou nd you if you just investigate a bit. Hope the assignment is going well.
