went off to the new forest today and took a few photos along the road to my mum's village to show you how beautiful it is.
i think that not having lived there for nearly ten years i forgot how special and beautiful it is. rural in a way dorset isn't~dorset is rolling farmland and forests~the new forest is rolling heathland and forests.
the bottom two pictures are taken as you cross the high heathland, from where on a good day you can see the isle of wight, then the road drops to a patch of forest through which the road twists and turns, finally coming out into the shallow valley where my mums village is tucked away.
what i really love is that the area is encircled by cattle grids so that the ponies, cows and donkeys (and pigs in the pannage season) can roam free, even in the village...you just have to remember to keep garden gates closed! many a time i have had to herd cows or horses out of the front garden!
