The Flame Haired Solstice Dreamer

Cold winter brings the Everfrost and jewels every tree
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
A flame~haired dreamer wanders there and shelters from the wind
And spins her dreams around the trees to break the ties that bind
She takes her thread and spins anew and how the Greenwood smiles
As she spins a spell for freedom and for her spirit Wylde

The dreamer finds an ancient oak and shelters in his lee
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
Tis summer now and birdsong weaves its magick through her spells
And humming bees drum drowsily in the foxglove's bells
The dreamer sits beneath the oak with yarn upon her knee
And spins and knits and weaves her dreams and sets her spirit free

Hopi Prophecy

~moving forwards & putting down roots~

its funny how you can love a place so much but never feel settled, never feel it really is home.

so now i am returning to the village where i grew and developed into the being i am today, the area my ancestors have lived, worked the land and sea for hundreds of years.

for years i have had a huge mental scrapbook of thoughts and ideas on how i wish my home and garden to be, but never had the impetus to actually do anything about it, mainly because i could not feel truly settled in a place where we live at the whim of a private landlord who could decided to sell up at any time and so destroying my carefully planned home and garden, the things i had poured my heart and soul into.

so now, despite being in packing limbo~surrounded by boxes and a limited selection of everyday items, waiting for our sooner rather than later moving date~i am finding myself enveloped by feelings of being...becoming, settled and being able to put my own personal roots down with swampy, after nearly 10 years together and our fourth, and final, move in ten years.

i find myself writing not only wish-lists but more practical lists, looking at paint colors, interesting rugs, curtains, wardrobes...looking at the things we own that i can cheer up with a coat of paint, making it seem new and fresh again...checking my stash of gingham and ticking fabric to make some new cushion covers.

i have even been out looking at what i can re-plant in our new garden~i have some cuttings taken from my mexican orange blossom but unfortunately have no choice but to leave behind my huge honeysuckle bush that has wonderful white climbing roses entwined in it...

the cottages in the background are the wonderfully named 'paradise row'

but a new chapter is about to unfold...with so many things to look forward to...

~making the few minute stroll to the 'french confection' a proper french style patisserie that sells the most wonderful cakes and fresh ground coffee, the last time i was there i think they had about 20 varieties of coffee and sells the best lemon tart i have ever tasted! get there early enough and you can sit outside watching the world go by.

~browsing in the bookshop that also serves you coffee while you browse~if my dad ever went missing this is where he could be found!

~for swampy there is a proper old fashioned ironmongers~the kind of place where you can buy seed potatos, nails, parafin from an old pink pump and pots and pans~if he ever goes missing thats where he will be!

~having swampy restore my old bike, it belonged to my granddad, and buying a new basket for the front and being able to cycle to my mum's

~the small town of lymington, reached by road or via the little 150 year old heritage railway is a great place for browsing the saturday market, they close the steeply sloping high street and you can buy anything from olives and cheese, local fruit and vegetables, hand made soaps, plants and funky clothes to assorted antiques and collectables. most exciting for me is the small independant music shop that has the biggest folk section i have ever seen even in the big named music shops!

so there you go...it will be sad moving but there is a lot to look forward to!

Ohhh....I could SO live there! I would love to browse a book store while being served coffee. What a gorgeous pic of those cottages, and those tree roots are perfect!

From someone who has moved 11 times in the past 10 years, I can relate to all the packing and list making.

("its funny how you can love a place so much but never feel settled, never feel it really is home")...I know this feeling all too well.
Wishing you all the best in your return to your home village.

I know exactly what you mean! I have felt this way in the past.

Good luck with your move, I'm sure it will be a good one!

And am so excited for you! from my soul...really! It sound like you will be living in such a charming, down to earth, wholesome place. And I get chills thinking of you returning to the land of your ancestors! Such a beautiful chapter of your life is unfolding!

.....someday..I'll get over to that part of the world and look into my own ancestral place....

All things share the same breath~the beast, the tree, the man, the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports.
