The Flame Haired Solstice Dreamer

Cold winter brings the Everfrost and jewels every tree
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
A flame~haired dreamer wanders there and shelters from the wind
And spins her dreams around the trees to break the ties that bind
She takes her thread and spins anew and how the Greenwood smiles
As she spins a spell for freedom and for her spirit Wylde

The dreamer finds an ancient oak and shelters in his lee
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
Tis summer now and birdsong weaves its magick through her spells
And humming bees drum drowsily in the foxglove's bells
The dreamer sits beneath the oak with yarn upon her knee
And spins and knits and weaves her dreams and sets her spirit free

Hopi Prophecy

~good grief!~

i have been catching up on comments you have been making regarding our allotment and my jaw hit the floor when i read chuggas comment...

that the waiting list for one where she lives is 35 years and the cost a staggering
£9,500 a year!
that is just unbelieveable!

when the parish councellor called to say we had a plot i asked how much it would be, expecting to pay something in the region of £10-20 a month...

here in our part of the new forest our plot is between £8-10 a year and we join the local allotment association for about £2 a year!

I'm seeing my garden in a whole new light, not that I didn't appreciate it before...it's just now I REALLY, REALLY appreciate it. :-)

Hardly worth having an allotment at that price - cheaper to have an organic veg box! You'd be too old to garden by the time your name got to the top of the list anyway:) At least I would - in 35 years time I'll be 107!!

Hi There,Love your site. I m a parish councillor down here near Chichester and we are campaining for allottments, but are having trouble finding land that the west sussex county council are willing to lease us, they just seem to block every suggestion from us with a negative response. I think they are hoping to use the land for building houses (oh what a surprise)Do they not understand more houses will only cause even more problems for our community. The main reason I joined the council was to raise awareness about the need for allottments and the way they can bring the local people together and not forgetting the beneficial impact on the environment.
There are a few surrounding villages that also have long waiting lists, but I dont think they on 35 years.LOL Thats incredible! Sorry for the essay, but I really wish everyone who needs a growing space could have one. Blessings Julie :) Oh by the way I love the New Forest.

goodness, does that person live on the moon!? Even here in oxon it's only £12/year with 4 or 5 on the waiting list!

There is an alternative to allotments and that is the Landshare project. Well worth checking out, especially if fees are high and waiting lists long.

Okay...I too, am now appreciating the fact that I have my own garden...even if I can only use it for about four months out of the year. Goodness, I had no idea how precious land was in some places...

Congratulations on your plot though. Have fun growing! :-)
