The Flame Haired Solstice Dreamer

Cold winter brings the Everfrost and jewels every tree
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
A flame~haired dreamer wanders there and shelters from the wind
And spins her dreams around the trees to break the ties that bind
She takes her thread and spins anew and how the Greenwood smiles
As she spins a spell for freedom and for her spirit Wylde

The dreamer finds an ancient oak and shelters in his lee
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
Tis summer now and birdsong weaves its magick through her spells
And humming bees drum drowsily in the foxglove's bells
The dreamer sits beneath the oak with yarn upon her knee
And spins and knits and weaves her dreams and sets her spirit free

~change is in the air~

i can feel it~can you?

here in the northern hemisphere the summer solstice has drifted by in a haze of hot summer sun and now lughnasa is tapping on the door~

as is usual i unlocked my back door early and this morning, unlike other mornings of this hot summer, there is a slight chill in the air.

the chill that reassures me that the great wheel is turning and we are now on the cusp of ever increasing darkness.

don't get me wrong i have loved this summer, even the too hot days when i could not even go into the garden.

but i love the solitude and withdrawal of the shorter days.
i love sitting all cosy indoors on dark, wet and wild nights.
love going across the forest when the clouds are low and the wind howling~leaving our village invisible from the high heath land~hidden in its hollow like a secret in the mist.

so i felt a tinge of joy this morning when that slight chill greeted me.
i am sure many people up and about early will have not even noticed it, for now it has warmed up out there.
the high winds of the last few days have gone to blast some other land and the sky looks down, a bright blue with some mares tails drifting high above.

~but i know i felt it this morning~

I agree completely. I haven't your wonderful way with words, but what you wrote sums up how I feel with Autumn on the way. You know, I just cant wait to look out on the Tor every morning and watch the Tower silhouetted against the brooding winter skies.

oh yes, one-million-thousand yeses!

I do love summer -- for it's green-ness and it's fruitfulness and for days lovely enough to sit outside with morning coffee but I'm right there with you on wild winds and rain and cooling times...I love to be wrapped in a shawl sipping tea while a storm rages outside.

I used to complain about the winter a lot and i think the brutal heat of summer has shown me how much i truly do value the darker time.....

and it is, after all, my ancestral weather....;)

Autumn is my favourite season... has nothing to do with my birthday either! lol

When Autumn arrives I'm definitely "in my element", always starts me off 'nesting' too, proper cooking resumes and I love getting home ready for the coming Winter. Agh! Impatient now :-)

We went up to the lottie this evening after I'd finished work and I said to my hubby that I can feel a change in the air. The seasons seem to be changing already and like you I can't wait. I LOVE Winter and the freshness in the air in the morning and evening is just lovely.

Yes, there was a cooling the air recently. It does remind us that change is continuous and that nothing lasts!
Yet, each season is special and to be much appreciated. Without cold, we could never appreciate warmth

We get so used to one weather system, especially hot summers, that when it changes we feel a shock to the system. At least there wasn't half as much watering needed recently! Yet, there seems to be another hot spell on the horizon!

Love your blogs too

All things share the same breath~the beast, the tree, the man, the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports.
