The Flame Haired Solstice Dreamer

Cold winter brings the Everfrost and jewels every tree
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
A flame~haired dreamer wanders there and shelters from the wind
And spins her dreams around the trees to break the ties that bind
She takes her thread and spins anew and how the Greenwood smiles
As she spins a spell for freedom and for her spirit Wylde

The dreamer finds an ancient oak and shelters in his lee
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
Tis summer now and birdsong weaves its magick through her spells
And humming bees drum drowsily in the foxglove's bells
The dreamer sits beneath the oak with yarn upon her knee
And spins and knits and weaves her dreams and sets her spirit free

Hopi Prophecy

~let it snow~

well the snow is all gone here in the new forest.

we were 'village-bound' for only two days and yesterday we managed to get 'pretty pagan' through two icy/snowy roads to the clear main road out of the village.

but it was lovely while it lasted although we are forecast more freezing temperatures next week.

***

on wednesday we went over to our usual spot over the forest where the bowl barrow is and a very light dusting of snow had fallen over night.
you can make out the barrow here, well burrowed into by the rabbits...

it was a bitterly cold walk, in fact i cannot remember when it had been this cold here in the forest. needless to say we did not walk as far as usual...

the snow started to fall in the night, from where i lay in bed could watch the small patch of our neighbours roof slowly disappear until it merged in with the night sky and it was still snowing when i woke in the morning...

there was no way we would risk driving in the snow so dressed warmly, complete with our snowboard boots and set off for the 'common'...

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

heading home we decided to go via the village. the 'watersplash' (ford to non-locals) had been diverted under the road while it had been so icy and was now covered in a layer of snow...

we met Flynt's friend Shaun in the village...

my mum lives a bit further down this road...

the old fire bell here~can you see it?!~is now only rung on the 11th of November at 11am...

the cross roads in the centre of the village~this is the house of my mums friend...

our little house hides behind the houses at the top of the road~this is the short route into the village...

'pretty pagan' looking very wintery...

so does our little house...

the same afternoon we took Flynt for his final walk and caught some of the sunset...

so glad we looked out our snowboard boots...

a busy puppy at sunset...

yours truly~wearing so many layers i look rather like a dumpling!

swampy heading home~note his festive hat...

***

this morning we woke to black ice and freezing fog after a day of heavy rain and slightly warmer temperatures yesterday.
but now at the tail end of the afternoon the sky is a brilliant blue and swampy took the opportunity to put up our yule lights~he is now impatient for the dark to see how they look.

***

its been a lazy day today.
my main objective was doing our budget for the month~why is it all the main bills come out of my account the week before yule?!

Lovely snowy pics, the holly bush pic is stunning. The new forest looks so picturesque in the snow. Flynt looks like he's enjoying himself. The snow turns woody into a mad dog it's so funny to watch. Beau likes the snow too, but nowhere near as much as woody. It's going to get as low as -8 tonight so I hope your all cozy and warm at home. (((hugs))) Pixie xx

Ellie and Roobarb say please send them some snow and ask if Shaun goes to the same hair-dresser as them?

I have just subscribed this minute because I am missing my New Forest so much and I believe you are in the heart of it....we used to keep our horses on Penn Common and moved to France to live a pagan, self sufficient life in France. I shall refer to you for inspiration and a Forest fix ! So glad I found you !

I so enjoyed the walk ;-) Great photos . . . looks as though Shaun may have needed a bit of a thaw-out when he got home, lol.

Some beautiful photos especially the one of the berries in the snow. Flynt obviously loves the snow as much as B Baggins does but poor Shaun! He doesn't look quite so keen!

Beautiful images of snow! Wow, you have as much as we do! That must be very special for you.;))
I wonder, due to the title of this page, whether you are looking forward to the 21st of December, when the sun returns again.;))
Have a lovely day and thank you for your always kind comments at my place,
xoxo

Nice snow pics lee!

All things share the same breath~the beast, the tree, the man, the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports.
