The Flame Haired Solstice Dreamer

Cold winter brings the Everfrost and jewels every tree
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
A flame~haired dreamer wanders there and shelters from the wind
And spins her dreams around the trees to break the ties that bind
She takes her thread and spins anew and how the Greenwood smiles
As she spins a spell for freedom and for her spirit Wylde

The dreamer finds an ancient oak and shelters in his lee
In a forest new as birth and old as old can be
Tis summer now and birdsong weaves its magick through her spells
And humming bees drum drowsily in the foxglove's bells
The dreamer sits beneath the oak with yarn upon her knee
And spins and knits and weaves her dreams and sets her spirit free

~solstice dreaming~

the lovely zuzana at life through reflections commented in one of my previous posts on the solstice.

that special time, mid-winter, is still days away but the coming celebration has been humming through me for a few days now.

the days are getting so much darker and night draws in sooner each day.

soon we will be at the point where we will be facing as far away from the sun as we can and when he shines in the sky it will be low, close to the horizon.

i find it very comforting that we have the tangible evidence still around us that as far back as the neolithic and bronze age, at newgrange and stonehenge for example, our ancestors celebrated this time~to say nothing of the effort that went into their creation of their sacred spaces.

Avebury's southern gateway to the main circle~'the devils chair'

although there is no surviving evidence to tell exactly how they celebrated~although maybe shamanistic journeying/pathworking could provide clues~the fact that these monuments give us proof of the significance of the solstice thousands of years ago is enough to make me feel close to my ancestors.

the following morning

i woke early and couldn't sleep so decided to get up around 5am and make myself a drink.
our little house is freezing cold so i sit here with a blanket over my lap, a fleece top and scarf helping to keep me warm~although i admit the heating has been switched on.
however for the past week or more, since this cold spell blew in from the north east nothing is keeping our home warm. we have been keeping windows and the curtains closed and heating on but the evening still finds us sitting wrapped in blankets to keep off the chill. although when a hot flush hits i find myself stripping off and fighting the urge to go out and roll in the frost!
i peeked out of the back window into the garden to see saturn bright in the sky~keep an eye open over the next week for the geminid meteor shower (the best night being late on the 13th to dawn on the 14th).
the garden is bright with frost yet again and watching the early weather forecast we are set for a clear cold day.

~wherever you are i hope you have a good day~

Yup, that sounds about right - you are strussed in a blanket and layers zipped right up to your ears then suddenly you are baking and beetroot faced, scrabbling at your neckline to undo the strangle hold of warmth ! And yes, the sun claws his way towards his rebirth and it will be ours too with planting and growing plans at the ready ....

This was a beautiful post and so much to my liking in every way. I love the solstices, as they are as you say, a bridge between now and the past and perhaps one day the future as well. I am fascinated by the Neolithic structures of our ancestors, who even in the past celebrated the vital sun.
Although June is my favorite month, the winter solstice is my favorite solstice as it means the sun is coming back.;))
Thank you so much for the mention as well, I am happy I inspired this lovely post.;)
Keep warm.;))

All things share the same breath~the beast, the tree, the man, the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports.
