we have had a nice but busy day today~venturing east of our home into Wimbourne which meant driving by Bradbury Rings another local iron age hill fort~ bronze age pottery has also been found at the site~the photo is not very good~sorry folks~i tend to snap away as we go along! trust me the tree covered lump is the fort!
the road that goes along the fort is a Roman road and is known as the Avenue of Beeches...
and further down the road we saw this...
it was such a glorious day, it felt perfect to be out and about and drinking in the views~almost as if i were starving for it all.
its one of those days that makes you feel really at peace with yourself
of course we had another reason for our journey to wimborne
this monster is a 1950's~60's New World catering cooker, that belonged to the GPO and will take pride of place in my kitchen when we eventually move. it will easily cook a christmas dinner for 6 with room to spare.
i am one of those people who harbour a great dislike of sleek, modern things~one reason why i love living in a cottage with no central heating an ancient rayburn and driving a 37 year old van!
on my visits to America and Canada over the years i have always fallen in love with the great big, vintage looking cookers and fridges in the self-catering appartments. they seem to go with the design idea of ~if it works, then dont change it. and so this kind of cooker has always been my dream~so imagine my delight when i saw this for sale!
despite its age it is in fantastic condition and until two days ago was used daily.
we have no gas supply to our village so it is sitting in our kitchen, resting until its big day when it will cook again. i really cant wait, i am going to be so impatient to actually use it~i used to do a lot of baking but since the temperature in the rayburn is so difficult to really control and i had so many disasters i have not done any since we have been here.
but i lay in bed last night planning a house warming party~sandwiches with the crusts cut off~fairy cakes with pastel icing and blancmange made in a bunny shaped mould and homemade lemonade!
of course i will have a special blog housewarming and invite you all!

I have a new stove but it is an old one.. ha! we imported it from England and it is made by Aga. i love it! You inspire me to cook.. oh and do you eat wheat flour? I have taken myself off it a few weeks ago and need some recipes.
Oh and the photo that is taken from the front window of your van.... it looks very much like country New South Wales.. very much!
