portchester castle seen across portsmouth harbour
i went with my mum and sam to Portsmouth yesterday to visit my nan who is the grand age of 92 tomorrow~she lives alone and still does her own washing and shopping which is not bad for a lady who was given hours to live 5 years ago!
i was born in Portsmouth. a big part of my family originate from the areas all around portsmouth harbour going as far back (so far as i have traced) to the 1700's so i guess you could say part of me is really rooted in the area.
this pub, snapped as we drove by is called the Rudmore Cellers, where my ancestors would drink, has been there for many, many years, back to when that area was known as portsea~the area was built up for the dockyard worker's families and this is where all my family lived, in what we call the Rudmore area as they were all either bargeman, fishermen, mariners or dockyard workers.
the area around the Rudmore Cellers has been torn down over the years for the expaning fery terminal and motorway but the pub still stands...my great granny nellie maud gaul lived in a little house right opposite the pub~i really wish it was still standing today
this is the view from my nan's flat~the masts you can see on the far right are the H.M.S Victory and to the left just visible between the two highest buildings the H.M.S Warrior~i realized today my nan have never lived more than a few minutes walk for the docks and my granddad hawkins, it is through his parents i have such strong links to the area, always lived by and worked on the docks like all those who came before him.
while we were there me and sam popped out to buy a new york city guide each and boy was it busy there. i think that is the first time in over ten years i have actually gone to the city centre and it was heaving. i came home feeling really tired and actually slept the night through.
today here in the new forest it is very chilly with a patchwork of blue and grey in the skies and high winds forcast for later today.
*news of the day my sister is bringing her new boyfriend round to see us so that will be interesting~they first knew each other when they were in their late teens and twenty years later are together...she thinks us it is fate*

Hi SD, Glad you had such a nice time in Portsmouth. Your nan sounds amazing. Great that you've caught up with your studies, and your work space is much tidier than mine. Its starting to get really chilly here now, so I've been naughty and put the heating on, so I can sit and sew and not be freezing. Have a good week, Pixie xxx
